From Malta to the Classroom: An Autumn Update from BRS

Autumn pmva updates

Autumn is well underway at BR Specialists, with Train the Trainer courses and work in education settings forming a busy programme of delivery. Alongside that day-to-day work, we are continuing to develop our Malta operation, bringing additional experience into the training team and exploring further opportunities in the UK.

These developments reflect the different ways BRS supports organisations: delivering training directly, helping others develop their own trainers and preparing people who are taking their first steps towards careers in healthcare.

Progress in Malta and within the team

With a new business location in place, our Malta operation is moving forward!

We are also in discussions with a Maltese public sector organisations – and potential training projects are progressing – This is an encouraging next step as we continue to build relationships on the island and explore how our training can support local frontline teams.

As usual, understanding the organisation and its working environment remains the starting point: The people attending a course, the responsibilities they have and the situations they may encounter all influence what they need from the training, as we bring BRS’s dedication and expertise, and delivery quality to new locations around Europe and beyond.

We are also working with an experienced trainer as we look to strengthen our delivery team – we’ll be adding further experience to BRS team. We look forward to sharing a fuller introduction as this work develops, and we onboard a new member to the team.

In the UK, work is progressing on a proposal for a potential training contract for a large public sector employer. This is a slightly different sector to those that we usually work – we are excited by this opportunity, and the people we can work with. We will share further news as it develops.

Training the trainers and future healthcare professionals

Meanwhile, our Autumn programme includes Train the Trainer courses, helping organisations develop people who can deliver safety training within their own teams. For those attending, this means learning the skills and developing the confidence to explain, demonstrate and teach them clearly to colleagues.

That teaching role brings its own challenges. A trainer may work with colleagues who have years of frontline experience, people who are new to the organisation and others who feel apprehensive about practising unfamiliar skills. Being able to respond to their questions and relate the learning to their working environment is an important part of effective delivery.

We are also continuing our work in education settings with people progressing towards careers in nursing and medicine. Their preparation for clinical environments includes thinking about how to communicate with someone who is frightened or distressed, recognise when a situation is changing and understand when support is needed.

Developing that awareness early gives future healthcare professionals a useful foundation as they move towards placements and patient-facing work. Practical safety training can help them consider their own responses under pressure, alongside the dignity and wellbeing of the people they will care for.

Nick Attard, General Manager at BR Specialists, explains:

“Someone preparing for their first nursing placement will have different questions from someone who has worked on a ward for twenty years. Both need training they can relate to. We spend time understanding who is in the room and what they are likely to face, because that is what makes the learning useful when they go back to work.”

As the autumn programme continues, we look forward to working with the organisations, trainers and future healthcare professionals taking part. For BRS, the progress in Malta and the developments within the team support the same practical aim: helping more people feel prepared for the situations they may encounter at work.

If you are planning conflict management, PMVA, breakaway or Train the Trainer courses for your organisation, contact the BRS team to discuss your setting and training requirements.
