Established in 1992 Breakaway & Restraint Specialists Ltd (BRS Ltd), formerly know as Basis Training, have provided personal safety training in conflict management, breakaway and restraint techniques to thousands of people in UK, Ireland, Middle East & Africa.

We are the leading Breakaway & Restraint Specialists in delivering personal safety training to all staff who daily face the threat of verbal abuse and physical violence in the workplace.

BRS Ltd is a leading provider delivering personal safety training to front-line workers; those that are most at risk of physical or verbal violence.

It is the aim of BRS Ltd to offer simple, concise skills in order to deal with dangerous situations. The benefit to the staff is that they feel confident in their ability and are able to deal with situations that may previously have caused them to feel afraid.

Meet The Team

Charlie Attard

DIRECTOR/TRAINER

Born in Malta at the age of 5 my family moved to the UK. I loved playing football and even played for England school boys.

Charlie says: "I love the response we always get from people on training courses when the realise how easy and simple our training is."

Fun Fact: "My family all call me Shrek and it’s a nickname actually given to me by my own mother."

John Davies

FOUNDER & SPECIALIST CONSULTANT

John is the founder of our company, and the reason is it where it is today. John and his wife Sarah set up the company as Basis Training over 30 years ago. He is now the companies Specialist Consultant and he’s knowledge and experience are second to none.

John has been in the military and after leaving joined the NHS working as an OT. He also has over 40 years’ experience in Martial arts and training people in personal safety.

Karl O’Dare

BUSINESS CONSULTANT

Karl O’Dare is our Specialist Business Consultant and has owned and ran a number of successful companies over the past 10 years.

From a business start-up to exiting and selling a company through acquisition.

Karl advises BRS on business matters and gives the support & advice needed.

Nick Attard

TRAINER

I've been training now for 10 years, started by going to help for a week, fell in love with training and 10 years later I'm still here.

In my spare time I enjoy mountain biking, walking, and swimming. Love going to the beach, or walking through a forest.

Sarah Davies

OFFICE MANAGER

I love reading, baking and going for walks on the coastline.
