From Plans to Presence: BR Specialists Malta Is Now Operational

Earlier this year, BR Specialists announced plans to establish a new European base in Malta. Those plans have now become a working business.
BR Specialists Malta is fully incorporated and operational, marking an important step in the company’s international growth. More importantly, conversations with potential clients are already progressing, including advanced discussions with a hospital in Malta about delivering specialist staff training.
Establishing more than an address
Opening a company in another country is one thing. Building a useful local presence is another.
For BRS, the Malta operation is intended to create a proper base from which the team can form relationships, understand local requirements and deliver training that reflects the environments in which people actually work.
That is particularly important in healthcare and other frontline services. Conflict, challenging behaviour and physical risk may be familiar concerns across different countries, but the way organisations operate, the composition of their teams and the situations staff encounter can vary considerably.
Effective training therefore cannot simply be lifted from one setting and delivered unchanged in another. It needs to take account of the organisation, its people, its responsibilities and the risks staff are genuinely likely to face.
Nick Attard, General Manager at BR Specialists, said:
“Getting the company incorporated and operational is the point where this becomes real. We are already in advanced discussions with a hospital in Malta, and the ambition is to build a strong client base on the island, then use that experience and presence to support more organisations across Europe.”
An immediate opportunity in healthcare
The discussions with a Maltese hospital represent an encouraging first opportunity for the new operation.
Healthcare staff can face complex situations involving distress, confusion, aggression or behaviour that presents a risk to the individual and those around them. Training needs to help staff recognise escalation early, communicate effectively and make proportionate decisions under pressure.
Practical skills may form part of that preparation, but good training begins before physical intervention becomes necessary. It should give staff more options, helping them use communication, positioning, awareness and de-escalation to reduce risk wherever possible.
When physical skills are required, they should be practical, proportionate and designed so that confidence does not depend on somebody’s size or strength. This is central to the BRS approach, particularly in settings where staff must balance their own safety with the dignity and wellbeing of the people in their care.
A connection with Malta
For Nick, who was born in Malta, the development also has a personal connection. However, the decision is supported by a clear business purpose.
A permanent operation allows BRS to develop a local portfolio rather than treating Malta solely as a destination for occasional overseas courses. It creates the foundations for longer-term relationships with hospitals, care providers, educational settings, hospitality businesses and other organisations whose employees may encounter conflict or challenging behaviour.
It also gives BRS a practical base within the European Union from which wider opportunities can be explored.
Growth will be approached carefully. The aim is not simply to deliver the same course in more places, but to build an understanding of each organisation and shape the training accordingly.
A platform for wider European growth
Malta is the immediate focus, but its location and connections create the potential for BRS to work more widely across Europe.
The company already has experience supporting organisations beyond the UK, including work in the Middle East. The Malta operation adds a European platform to that international experience while allowing BRS to retain the tailored, instructor-led approach on which its reputation has been built.
UK clients will continue to be supported as before. The new operation extends the company’s reach rather than changing its commitment to existing organisations and sectors.
For BRS, this latest milestone is significant because it turns an ambition into something tangible: a registered and operational company, active discussions with a prospective healthcare client and a clear route towards building a sustainable presence in Malta.
The next stage is to turn that presence into strong local partnerships and demonstrate the value that relevant, realistic safety training can bring to frontline teams.
Organisations in Malta or elsewhere in Europe can contact BR Specialists to discuss conflict management, breakaway, PMVA, de-escalation and other tailored training requirements.
